There have been great advances, over the last couple of decades, in our understanding of the pathogenesis of psoriasis (as well as many inflammatory skin and internal diseases). These have led to the development of a new class of medications, the biologics. These medications can target much more precisely the immune mechanisms which are involved in causing disease. Overall, these medications have greatly improved efficacy and safety over traditional medications.
All our dermatologists at Toowong Dermatology have experience with the biologics for psoriasis. Dr Jason Wu has particular experience. In addition to his private practice at Toowong Dermatology, he runs the Biologics and Difficult Psoriasis clinic at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (since its inception in 2008). He has presented and been on steering committees for several national meetings in the field of biologics, collaborated on position statements, and been on national advisory boards for multiple medications in this field.
